Daniel R. Mawhinney



Dan Mawhinney for over 30 years has specialized in litigation involving claims of catastrophic personal injury and property damage. His focus is on lawsuits arising from negligence, products liability and warranty claims against Fortune 500 companies including retailers, designers and manufacturers of automobiles and consumer products. Dan has frequently worked on the defense of Federal Multi-District lawsuits. He also counsels insurance companies in liability and coverage matters, including representation of insurers involved in large fire loss cases. Dan has had well over 100 jury trials and has represented companies headquartered the USA as well as in the UK, Canada, Germany, Brazil, China, the Netherlands and Indonesia.   

Dan has been an active member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel since 1996 and has held numerous leadership positions within the FDCC. He has been a frequent lecturer at the FDCC Litigation Management College held at the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University and Emory University's Goizueta Business School. 

Dan is Maine native. He first practiced in St. Louis, Missouri before returning to his home state. He is admitted to practice in the state courts of Maine and Missouri as well as the United States District Courts in Maine, the US First Circuit Court of Appeals and the US Supreme Court.  Dan received a JD from St. Louis University after studying in BA and Masters programs at the University of Maine and Boston College. 

Dan lives on his family’s apple farm in Auburn, Maine and enjoys road cycling and racing, fly fishing, skiing, gardening and, in fact, “all things outdoors”.
